How do I get there?
In the summer: Our helicopter departs from Kiruna airport. You get to Kiruna by air or train, from Stockholm Arlanda international airport (ARN) it is a 1,5 hour flight. Check flights at SAS website. For train check SJ webpage.
We sell licenses at the camp, we sell them for the "Länsstyrelse", the authority in charge of fishing. Price is set by them and we don´t add anything to this price.
Do you have to have a boat?
You don´t have to have a boat, you can walk to the nearest rapid, but for flexibility we highly recommend you to hire a boat for your stay. You can book it on the spot (if avaliable) in case you want to try without it. You can also book a boat taxi on the spot if you want to go to a particular place. Due to current fishing rules, it is not allowed to fish from the rental boat. It is only for transport.
The rapids offer all kinds of wading, this is also dependant on water level, but there is always easier spots to fish in case you feel insecure.
Is it possible to book a guide on the spot?
Yes, you can decide to book a guide when you are in Tjuonajokk. If you are a first timer you always get a tour of the camp, this is a good time to ask more about the fishing.
For many guests the helicopter flight is an adventure in itself. Listen to the instructions given by the pilot and Tjuonajokk crew. When leaving the helicopter, walk straight forward or to the side, never towards the back of the helicopter. Tjuonajokk crew will take care of all your luggage. Please pack your luggage in several small bags rather than one really large suitcase, it makes all handling and packing of the chopper easier.
Wading boots with studs is not allowed in Tjuonajokk. Use single hooks, barbless, 1 fish per person and day can be killed in the window 35-45cm for grayling and trout. Pike in the window 45-70 cm. You need a fishing license of course.
The restaurant is open every day and food is served according to your order. Breakfast is to be ordered the day before at the latest and last dinner ordere is at breakfast the same day.
We take care of all waist at the camp. We recycle and therefore we ask you to assist us in sorting your waist.
There is a pay-phone in the reception, observe, we don´t accept cards for phone calls. Cell phones does not work in Tjuonajokk.
You can rent fishing gear in the reception. Also rain coats, boots etc.
We probably have the best water in Sweden. You fetch it at our own spring. Or drink from Kaitum river...
